PITCHPOLE
Pitchpole (2023) by William Robinson is a meditation on the nautically themed musical and poetic works –Henry Russell's song and chorus A Life On The Ocean Wave and Johanna Adriana Ader-Appels' poem of memoriam From the Deep Waters of Sleep– associated with Bas Jan Ader's 1975 iconic work and tragic transatlantic voyage, In Search of the Miraculous. Pitchpole employs choral monody as the central device of a film and installation. Ader's opus and Ader-Appels' poem serve as narrative vessels to examine the maternal bond and the poetics of grief, in line with other seafaring stories and lore that feature the ocean as a central character and entity of transgression and transformation. Pitchpole features collaborators such as Nick Veltmeyer & Ryan Veltmeyer (composers/musicians), Peter Dietz & Janelle Lucyk (soloists) with Aureas Voces (singers), Shaya Ishaq (artist), Erinn Beth Langille (poet), and Joel Waddell (sound designer).
